biography

My passion for helping people combined with over twenty years of experience as a health and wellness coach and water safety instructor has led me to open Aqua Mi in Nevada County. The warm water therapy pool is a place where movement, mobility, safety and prevention are offered to you.

Combining my passion for aquatics, fitness, physical therapy and education has allowed me to combine my love for the water with helping, motivating, and educating people (of all ages). As an early childhood educator, I have worked with the Grass Valley School District for over 9 years. I am a certified AFAA personal trainer and coach and have worked with local fitness gyms and studios. I have assisted local physical therapists with post op and rehab with senior residents to develop daily mobility and strength programs. As a mother of three boys, I am passionate about spending time in the water to assist in helping children and adults of ALL ages to gain confidence in the process of becoming “water safe”.

Learning to swim before I could walk as I grew up in the Lake Pines in Auburn, California left a huge impression on my life. My parents were active in water safety instruction, local swim team, and lifeguarding. My mother helped organize the first Special Olympics in Southern California. The difference my parents made in peoples’ lives inspires me to this day.

I have over twenty-five years of experience with preschool and early elementary age children as a nanny, public and private school teacher, and swim instructor. As a Nevada County ‘native’, it was an honor to raise my three boys near the water as well. It has been a joy to see their confidence and enjoyment for aquatics bloom. My passion and love for the water as well as that for young children bring me to the lake and pool as a water safety instructor today.

There are different methods of teaching children to swim and I believe the “old school’ WSI “Johnny learns to swim” method works best for my students. I am fortunate to have many local references and success story families in our community.
